BIO


Drummer & Percussionist, Luke Herbert was born in Sydney Australia. Herbert is an International musician having started his musical journey at age 7, studying classical piano. Since then he has not stopped studying and playing music.

 


At age 12 and during high school he studied drum-kit under several teachers starting with Al Jackson Jr grooves. Also during high school he received a position in the drum line in the worlds largest marching band, the 2000 member Olympic Band studying under David Glyde ( Blue Devils) playing in the Sydney 2000 opening Ceremony Olympics and related events. Luke then went on to Study Classical Percussion at University majoring in Avant Garde and contemporary classical music. 
while living in Newyork city Luke studied drums with the late,  great, Joe Morello (Dave Brubeck Quartet)  and world renowned studio drummer Bernard Purdie

 

 


Luke has had a varied career as a session musician and touring drummer, in Australia he has worked with many of prominent and varied artists.

2020 has already seen Luke drumming with some of the country's best of country and alt country music at the Tamworth Country music festival.
Luke was drumming for the grammy winning pedal steele player Lucky Oceans album launch backing feature performances from Paul Kelly, Kasey Chambers, Bill Chambers, Don Walker (cold chisel) and Catherine Britt.
Luke was also seen playing with Golden Guitar winning band of 2020 KB and the Flood backing special guest artists Troy Cassar Daley , Shane Nicolson and many others.

Luke was based in Music City, Nashville, USA for several years. sponsored Tommy Emmanuel's management company  as a studio and touring musician, LUKE JOINED “The Deep Vibration” (Dual-tone Records). Notably named by the late great, Lou Reed. The deep vibration toured extensively across the USA for several years playing many festivals and gigs including SXSW festival, they released an EP and full length record to critical acclaim during their time together.


In Nashville Luke also worked as a studio and session musician with many notable artists including Andrew Combs, Simon Bruce, Caitlin Rose, Jesse and Noah Bellamy, Daniel Tashian (Kasey Musgraves producer) & The Silversea's and in Sessions along side studio greats such as Al Perkins, Spooner Oldham and producer Niko Bolas.

 

Luke is currently based In his home town of Sydney. 
You can see Luke playing around Sydney regularly with Jesse Redwing band and Kevin Bennett & The Flood amongst many other. Luke also likes to stay active in the studio recording many different types of projects.
